By Kristin LaFratta | [email protected] week the city of Boston awarded its first conditional-use permit to a hopeful recreational marijuana business, Ascend Massachusetts.Though don’t expect it open anytime soon. In order to open the first recreational cannabis store in the state capital, Ascend must next gain approval from the state Cannabis Control Commission.Approval from Boston is no easy feat and requires the business to show it is viable, following regulations and agreeable with the public and neighborhood. The city, in its list of instructions for recreational marijuana business applicants, lists “going through the appeal process” as a likely step for those seeking to secure a permit from the city. The store will be located at 272 Friend St., within walking distance to the TD Garden and Faneuil Hall.
