Many hands make light work. Together, we can continue to effect positive influence on the laws and regulations around the cannabis industry in Massachusetts. So far, MassSense/The Massachusetts Grower Advocacy Council (MGAC) has managed to help develop license types via an initial draft submitted to the Cannabis Advisory Board, created the microbusiness license, made positive impact on definitions and other aspects of regulation. We’ve also lobbied hard on language to reform Host Community Agreements and hemp issues, among others. Much has been accomplished in Massachusetts cannabis, but there is still a lot of work left to do.

MassSense/MGAC has always been about reasonable and sensible regulation and legislation around cannabis. We have developed good working relationships with regulators and legislators alike.  Our team is steeped in the law and regulations. We have our own lobbyists to bring our collective concerns to the Commonwealth. But how, you ask, do we decide what language to work on? How do we decide what new language to bring?

That is where you come in.

Our membership dictates where we go with legislation and regulation. When relevant issues arise, we let everyone know what is happening and get feedback on how to proceed. We are in regular contact with people on the Joint Committee on Cannabis Policy to stay apprised of any new language coming down the pike. Sometimes member discussions on legislative and regulatory issues are in a meeting format and sometimes it is a simple poll, depending on the issue, but membership always dictates how and where it all goes.

We also have discounts for typical business services for our members. Insurance, human resources and staffing are all available, for instance. We do regular events for members and the public, which are great opportunities for networking and education. We also connect members with industry resources, as available.
